A practical framework for fuel quality management
Fuel reliability is managed through connected decisions—not a single product. Use Test → Manage → Treat → Monitor → Maintain to understand stored-fuel condition, select the right response and maintain confidence over time.
Five connected disciplines. One fuel-quality programme.
Petrol and diesel behave differently, and no single additive, field test or water-management device assesses or resolves every problem. The framework below provides an operational starting point for generators, marine systems, transport fleets, agriculture, mining and bulk storage. Product selection must always reflect the specific fuel, equipment and manufacturer’s current instructions.
01 · Test
Establish what is present
Start with fuel history, representative sampling and the operating symptom. A clear-looking sample is not proof that fuel meets specification. When microbial contamination is suspected, FUELSTAT One or Plus can contribute specific evidence. Water content, particulates and fuel chemistry may require separate checks. Record where, when and how the sample was collected.
02 · Manage
Control water and physical contamination
Water ingress and accumulated free water require physical attention. Check tank access, seals, vents, delivery practices and drainage arrangements. For suitable stationary diesel tanks, Aquafighter provides an in-tank approach to managing emulsified water; it does not replace free-water drainage or cleaning a sludge-filled tank. Follow Conidia’s installation and retrieval instructions.
03 · Treat
Match the intervention to the fuel and the problem
Fuel Right treatments are one part of a broader fuel-quality programme. Select a formulation only after confirming its approved fuel compatibility, dose and intended purpose. ProActive, 15K and 30K are not interchangeable by assumption. A treatment is not a substitute for removing water, repairing a leak or disposing of fuel that cannot be safely recovered.
04 · Monitor
Track change, not just a single result
Create a repeatable inspection and sampling record. Trend filter restriction, water findings, storage duration, tank maintenance and relevant test results. Use comparable sample locations and methods wherever practical. Escalate abnormal changes rather than relying on a single satisfactory result to justify indefinite storage.
05 · Maintain
Keep the system reliable
Close the loop through tank housekeeping, planned inspection, correct product use and documented follow-up. Maintain drains, vents, seals and fuel-handling equipment; assess recurring water or sludge as a system issue. For critical standby systems, set responsibilities and action thresholds before an outage or fuel-related interruption occurs.
Three complementary product capabilities
FUELSTAT · microbial testing
On-site microbial contamination assessment using the appropriate Conidia One or Plus test for the fuel and reporting requirement. A test does not treat fuel or measure every quality parameter.
Aquafighter · diesel water management
In-tank management of water in suitable stationary diesel tanks after necessary free-water drainage and cleaning. Check tank opening, model capacity, retrieval and inspection requirements.
Fuel Right · fuel treatment
Product-specific treatment options for compatible fuel applications. Review technical instructions, fuel type, dosage and equipment requirements before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.
Start with the condition you can observe
Water, haze or a wet tank bottom
Investigate water entry and obtain a suitable tank-bottom sample. Drain accumulated free water as appropriate; inspect for sludge and consider whether tank cleaning is required. Read water-management guidance.
Repeated filter restriction
Check filter history and the tank for solids, microbial residues and degraded fuel. The visible filter condition alone may not establish the cause. Investigate blocked filters.
Low-turnover fuel storage
Consider storage duration, replenishment, tank integrity, moisture and the consequences of failure. Create a proportionate sampling and maintenance plan. Review generator fuel maintenance.
Petrol in boats or seasonal equipment
Check fuel age, blend compatibility and possible water ingress. Suspected ethanol phase separation is not an ordinary additive-selection problem. Read marine petrol guidance.
