FUELSTAT One: evidence-led microbial fuel assessment
Product code: FMD8-3 · Contact Us for Pricing and Availability. Request a FUELSTAT Quote · Compare kits
Microbial contamination can arise where fuel, water and favourable storage conditions coincide. Bacteria and fungi may contribute to deposits, filter restriction, microbiologically influenced corrosion and interrupted operations. The right first step is to establish what is happening in the tank—not to assume that every fuel-quality problem requires the same chemical treatment.
Conidia FUELSTAT One, Diesel and middle distillate (FMD8-3) is supplied as a box of eight single-use tests. The manufacturer describes a lateral-flow assay detecting broad microbial markers, with quantitative interpretation by the FUELSTAT Result app, with 20–30 minutes from sample to digital report. Sampling and preparation requirements must also be followed. This diesel and middle-distillate kit is intended for monitoring and investigating fuel-system microbial contamination; it does not certify compliance with all fuel specifications.
Where this test is relevant
- Targeted investigation of fuel that has water, sludge, abnormal deposits or recurring filter restriction.
- Routine monitoring of bulk storage tanks, backup generation, commercial fleets, marine diesel and fuel handling operations.
- Assessing trends, establishing a baseline and reviewing the effectiveness of fuel-system maintenance.
- Informing a follow-up response: further sampling, specialist investigation, water removal, filtration, tank cleaning or an appropriately justified remediation programme.

Field procedure and reporting
Follow the manufacturer instructions for FUELSTAT One, including the sample phase, preparation, extraction and prescribed development time. Test interpretation should be completed within the manufacturer reading window. The FUELSTAT Result app supports the necessary digital reading for a fully quantitative result and PDF reporting.
Sampling quality matters: obtain a representative sample using a controlled sampling method that accounts for likely bottom-water and fuel-phase contamination. The presence, absence or degree of one tested microbial marker must be considered alongside tank condition and operational history.
Limitations and appropriate next steps
FUELSTAT is a diagnostic tool. It does not physically remove water, clean tanks, treat microbial growth, measure particulate cleanliness, identify oxidation products or confirm every fuel-quality specification. An apparently favourable microbial result does not rule out other contamination mechanisms. Where contamination is indicated, investigate the source and extent, decide whether laboratory confirmation or further sampling is warranted, and follow equipment-manufacturer and industry requirements.
Choosing the right version
FUELSTAT One and Plus are different technologies. One is suited to applications needing app-assisted quantitative assessment; Plus provides a faster semi-quantitative antibody-based field test. Each is offered for diesel or jet fuel, and in single or eight-test packs. Review the full FUELSTAT product range and select the kit labelled for the actual fuel.
Questions frequently asked
Does this kit kill diesel bug or treat contaminated jet fuel?
No. This is a testing kit, not a biocide, fuel additive or filtration device.
Is a laboratory required?
Not to perform the Conidia on-site test. Specialised laboratory testing can still be relevant for root-cause investigation or compliance.
Can the diesel and aviation products be substituted?
Do not substitute kit variants without explicit manufacturer confirmation. Use the variant listed on the product label and order code.
What happens after a positive result?
Assess severity and operational risk, inspect water and sludge conditions, and determine whether targeted remediation and verification are necessary.
